Turning CO₂ into Something Better: A Conversation About Poly-CO₂

Our sites are fast-paced. Our work is deadline-driven. The momentum is always moving us forward to the next task and the next deliverable. So it’s not always easy to stop and take a step back — especially when it may mean switching gears and embracing new ways to work. But in a challenging economic climate with so much uncertainty clouding the near future, that pause is exactly the type of proactive move we need.
That was the mentality our teams across Monument sites embraced when low inventory and a soft market raised some red flags in our current spending and operations. It was time to slow down and make some tough decisions — but the efforts and challenges would all be worth it.

For a batch process plant like Brandenburg, the average lifespans of various components of equipment can be difficult to predict. But when it came to the mechanical seals used to prevent hazardous material leaks at their rotating shafts, it wasn’t hard to notice the significant maintenance times and costs as a result of their failures. So in 2015, their team embarked on a concerted effort toward expanding the lifespan of these seals — and it paid off big time.

She had a choice of several companies to join and says the Monument colleagues she met while doing interviews were a major factor in her decision to kick off her career here: “Everyone was super friendly and encouraging, and I knew there would be many opportunities here for me to grow as an engineer.” Now, after eight years with us, she remains convinced she made the right choice.

The Plant Technician is not only a seasoned vet in the chemical industry, but he’s also the longest-serving employee in Monument’s company history. This past December, he celebrated his 50 years, boasting a long history of career advancement, experience, and contributions that have helped make our Pilot Plant what it is today.
