Mental Health in Action: From New Houston Wellness Resources to One Team Member’s Mission and Impact
May 9th, 2025
May is Mental Health Month – a time to remember that caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. At Monument, we believe supporting your well-being means having the right resources available and creating spaces where connection and care are part of everyday life.
This month, we’re excited to share two ways that belief is being put into action:
- Houston team members now have access to Next Level Prime – a broad network of wellness centers and services that make it easier than ever to find support for their health and well-being.
- We’re also spotlighting Vivian Brooks, Monument Business Application Support Specialist, who turned her family’s personal journey with autism into an incredible nonprofit for kids and families.

Spotlight on Vivian Brooks: The Story Behind Rayna’s Clubhouse
This Mental Health Month, we’re also proud to spotlight Vivian Brooks, Monument Business Application Support Specialist, who saw a need for greater community and inclusion – and answered it by founding a nonprofit that’s changing lives in her community.
She is the founder of Rayna’s Clubhouse, a nonprofit that creates safe, welcoming spaces for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including her daughter Rayna, who has autism. Vivian was eager to share her story to inspire others…
What inspired you to start Rayna’s Clubhouse?
When Rayna was younger, she was pretty content doing her own thing. But once she got older and saw her older brother making friends in high school, she started asking, "Where are my friends?" Hearing that question broke my heart. I realized there weren’t many places where Rayna could meet and connect with others. So I decided to build that space – not just for her, but for other kids too.
I wanted a place where kids with disabilities and kids without disabilities could come together, learn from each other, and just have fun. And I wanted a place where parents like me could breathe a little easier, knowing our kids were safe, welcomed, and celebrated.
It started small, but people loved it – and it grew from there.
What does Rayna’s Clubhouse do?
We host five events a year – we call them “kickbacks.” They’re simple, low-pressure gatherings with food, activities, and lots of room to just hang out and be themselves.
We hold them at the Boys & Girls Club, so there’s plenty of space, and we tie each one to a season or holiday.
We launched in 2021, when COVID had left a lot of families feeling even more isolated. Today, we welcome 20 to 25 kids at each event.
Everything is free for families – we fund it ourselves because we want it to be as easy and welcoming as possible.
What moments have stood out the most?
One moment that really stayed with me involved a young girl who was deaf. I don’t know sign language, but her mom told me after the event that her daughter absolutely loved being there. Even without spoken words, she could sense – through our body language, smiles, and the energy of the space – that she was welcomed and safe.
When kids tell us, “This is the most fun I’ve had!” or when parents say, “This is exactly what we needed” – those are the moments that make it all worth it.
What would you like people to understand about autism?
It’s okay to ask questions. It’s okay to offer help. People sometimes stay quiet because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing – but a little kindness and curiosity can go a long way.
If you see a child struggling or having a meltdown, don’t assume the worst. Maybe ask, "Is there anything I can do to help?" Even small gestures – like picking up a dropped item or offering a word of encouragement – can make a big difference.
And most of all: just be kind.
What has this journey taught you?
For a long time, I asked, "Why us?" But now, I see it as part of our purpose. Through Rayna’s Clubhouse, we’re creating something positive – not just for our family, but for others too. And that’s made all the difference.

Vivian’s story reminds us how important it is to build spaces where everyone feels supported – and how powerful it can be to simply show up for one another.
Whether it’s through Monument’s wellness offerings or finding time to check in with yourself or a friend, remember that taking care of your mental health (and encouraging others to do the same!) is one of the most important things you can do.
Because real strength isn’t about pushing through alone. It’s about having the care and support you need to thrive.
