Brandenburg Sitewide Efforts Nearly Quadruple Seal Equipment Lifespans

For a batch process plant like Brandenburg, the average lifespans of various components of equipment can be difficult to predict. But when it came to the mechanical seals used to prevent hazardous material leaks at their rotating shafts, it wasn’t hard to notice the significant maintenance times and costs as a result of their failures. So in 2015, their team embarked on a concerted effort toward expanding the lifespan of these seals — and it paid off big time.

  • Houston Logistics Manager Delivers Innovative Solution to Salvage Major Yields of Contaminated Materials — and Boost Monument Revenue

Houston Logistics Manager Delivers Innovative Solution to Salvage Major Yields of Contaminated Materials — and Boost Monument Revenue

A contaminated product can cost any manufacturer — big time. Not only could it require extensive measures to try and salvage the material, but there’s also no guarantee how much you actually will salvage when all the work is said and done. And due to the unplanned nature of these issues, it can be just as inconvenient and costly to the chemical company helping them reprocess it all.

This all could have been the case for our client, Total Energies, when one of their rail cars, containing over 180,000 pounds of industrial solvent (Methylcyclohexane, or MCH), was contaminated with an unknown substance. But when they came to Monument with hopes of recovering as much as they could through a lengthy distillation at Bayport, our team came up with a much better idea — one that not only saved time and money, but also recovered 98% of their material. But it sure wasn’t easy.

Dennis Gregorius Takes Us to the Cosmos in a Stunning Photo Essay from Kallo

In this stunning photo essay, Dennis Gregorius takes us into the cosmos — and around the Monument Kallo site — in a way we’ve never experienced before. As Field Coordinator at Kallo, Dennis spends most of the year sampling, servicing, and filling the site’s chemical-storage tanks. It’s work he’s been doing since 1999, initially during summers as a college student and, following graduation, as a full-time Monument employee. Dennis is an avid world traveler, primarily to South America. His most-frequent destination on that continent is Ecuador, where he’s taken approximately 12,000 photographs. We recently had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his photo essay and his travels on Earth — and via reading and photography — to space.
