Monument Houston Volunteers Dish Up Second Helping of Food Donations
June 5th, 2020
As COVID-19 restrictions continue, so have efforts to provide much-needed groceries and staples to needy families. On May 8, Monument Houston volunteers stepped up for a second time to distribute fresh vegetables and basic food items to more than 500 families, powered by a $10,000 donation from Monument Chemical to the Houston Food Bank.
The Monument folks were joined by additional volunteers, including Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia, a well-known local politician with a 35-year career in public service. According to Courtney O’Bannon, daughter of Gloria O’Bannon, Monument Houston’s HSSE Compliance Coordinator, he was a big hit with the families picking up food during the Harris County Precinct 2 event.
“He came up and asked to help so I told him to put three heads of cabbage into the trunk of each car. I didn’t know who he was, but people kept shouting hello and waving at him, asking for his picture. I didn’t know I was working with a celebrity,” joked Courtney, who is graduating in December with a BS in Allied Health and plans to study nursing starting in January.
Many thanks to the Monument volunteers who made this important event possible! You are helping to make our community stronger than ever.
