Kallo Event Reinforces the Importance of Collaboration and Good Housekeeping

July 8th, 2019

As part of the United Nations World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, the Kallo team hosted a safety housekeeping event. Employees and contractors alike participated in the event – and together, gathered waste from manufacturing and office areas for safe disposal.

The Quality Assurance and HSE teams organized the event – and built upon successes from previous World Day for Safety and Health at Work activities.

“We’ve hosted similar events in the past, but this year, we really wanted to enhance the collaboration,” said Michel Janssens, HSE Manager. “We identified a coordinator in each area of the plant, and additional participants were selected randomly. This created a cross-functional team – from all job levels – that allowed everyone to get to know each other in a setting and for a task where they don’t usually collaborate.”

At the end of the event, employees gathered to enjoy a healthy drink and snack (to highlight the “health” part of the UN day).  All participants received a goody bag containing fruit, flavored water, and a reusable isolating cup – to prevent waste from disposable coffee cups.

“This event reinforced the importance of good housekeeping in our daily efforts to prevent accidents due to trips, slips, and falls – as well as other potential accidents in general,” said Gretel Sandrap, HSE Coordinator. “And good housekeeping also helps us meet the quality standards of our customers.”

“Our joint efforts during the event also reminded us of the importance of cleaning up right after you finish a job – and we plan to incorporate this more into our daily processes,” said Leen Props, Quality Assurance Coordinator. “Most importantly, we were reminded that by working together, we can achieve just about anything – including an even cleaner plant and continuous improvements to our housekeeping program.”
