Each year, about 37 million people go hungry in the U.S. Now, with financial struggles increasing during the COVID-19 pandemic, many more are finding it hard to afford to feed themselves and their families. Fortunately, many people are stepping forward to help, including Monument!

On the morning of April 23, Houston-area Monument Chemical volunteers packed and distributed grocery staples to more than 500 families in Harris County’s Precinct 2.

This effort was part of The Heritage Group’s initiative to support 50 hunger-fighting organizations in communities where THG companies operate, including $40,000 for Monument’s communities. These funds have enabled the Houston, Baytown, Bayport, and Brandenburg teams to support a range of local food distribution organizations in Texas and Kentucky.

Monument volunteers will be participating in a second food distribution event, this time with the Houston Food Bank, in early May.

Families received a selection of shelf-stable foods including spaghetti-dinner fixings, canned tuna, soup, pantry staples (sugar, rice, beans, oil), assorted snacks, and more.

Even though the team couldn’t see each other’s smiles through the masks, the satisfaction and shared purpose of supporting local families was visible in the care taken with each and every bag of groceries. Thank you to all of our Houston volunteers!
