An Important Message for Our Valued Customers and Partners

April 2nd, 2020

To Our Family of Customers and Partners:

First, thank you for the work you do day in and day out to provide consumers and businesses with the products they need, especially during the challenges caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

At Monument Chemical, we know that you depend on an adequate supply of quality product to maintain your business success. As your partner, we are committed to taking the necessary steps to remain a reliable source in your supply chain.

Here’s an update on where we stand today.

Monument Chemical’s Essential Operations Role

As you are probably aware, on March 28, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) updated its “Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce.”

This directed chemical companies like ours to remain operational to respond directly to the coronavirus challenge and contribute to economic strength throughout this crisis. In response, our U.S. operations in Kentucky and Texas are maintaining production and even ramping up some products to respond to increased customer need. Our Belgium plant continues operations, following similar directives issued by the European Union. In short, all our plants are in a good position to meet the continued needs of our customers.

Note that at this stage, we are not seeing direct impact on our ability to continue to supply our customers with the high-quality chemicals and custom manufacturing services they depend upon.

We also recognize that this situation is very fluid, and we will continue to provide updates as we learn more. We are confident in our preparation and emergency planning for situations such as the ones we face now -- which will allow us to safeguard our team and the reliable supply of our products and services.

Health and Safety First

Because the safety of our employees and their families is our number one priority, we’ve taken immediate and proactive measures company-wide to reduce exposure. We are following U.S. and European Union guidelines to protect our workers and combat the spread of the virus. We also have instituted a work-from-home directive for non-essential employees as well as travel restrictions for others. We’ve implemented COVID-fighting hygiene protocols for essential operations staff (e.g., strict social distancing rules, frequent handwashing, widespread use of sanitizing gels and wipes, etc.) and have enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols throughout our facilities.

We also have been fine tuning our detailed emergency response plan should any of our employees contract COVID-19. We have multiple strategies readily at hand for ensuring employees’ safety and continuing production for our customers.

Fighting COVID-19

Many of Monument Chemicals products are playing a vital role in combatting COVID-19.

The most visible is our ramped-up production of isopropyl alcohol and other chemicals that are critical ingredients in hand sanitizer and disinfecting cleaning products.

In addition, Monument’s chemistries contribute to:

  • Medical devices such as blood and IV bags, tubing, syringes, masks, and gowns.
  • Circuit boards and semiconductors for medical equipment, phones, telecommunications, and more.
  • Oil, gas, and diesel chemicals, jet fuel ingredients, and other fossil fuel additives crucial to the logistics, shipping, and transportation sectors.
  • Specialty materials and chemicals used to produce labeling and packaging for consumer and commercial products, including pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter medicines.

We continue to apply our R&D expertise and scalable manufacturing capacity for new custom-manufacturing challenges.

Caring for Our Communities

In addition to how we are contributing directly to fighting the coronavirus, we take seriously our roles as an employer, contributor to the local economy, and as good citizens in our community.

While we routinely support local nonprofits, we’ve ramped up our support during this ongoing crisis. For example, local plants and their employees are donating to food banks, emergency housing organizations, animal shelters, and more. Our parent company, The Heritage Group, recently made generous contributions to nonprofits that support food banks in nearly 50 locations around the country to directly contribute to the critical needs of families impacted economically by the pandemic’s ripple effects.

Looking Forward

Throughout this crisis, Monument Chemical remains committed to the fundamentals of partnering with our customers to contribute to the greater good. That promise also means we want to help you with whatever issues you may be facing. We have learned a lot by responding to the crisis and are happy to share our own experiences and best practices with you, our customers, as we have already done with our industry colleagues.

Please reach out to your Monument Account Representative to share how this pandemic is affecting you, how we can help your company, and how you’d like to see us serve your community. For your convenience, you can also use our Contact Form.

We certainly are living in unprecedented times, but the spirit of innovation and resilience is alive everywhere we look. We will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger than ever on the other side, together.
