Brandenburg Inspires Next Generation of Team Members

November 8th, 2023

A big thank you to our Brandenburg employees who participated in two exciting events in October: Manufacturing Career Awareness Day (October 26) and Junior Achievement Inspire (October 24-27).

Manufacturing Career Awareness Day was a hands-on fair for over 400 freshman and sophomore students in Meade County to spark interest in a wide range of manufacturing careers.

Monument helped the students use microscopes to look at samples from the Wastewater Treatment plant – and they were able to find some of the microorganisms that digest our waste. Monument team members explained how we use an aerobic digestion plant to treat the water in our facility before sending it back to the river –cleaner than we receive it! The team also related that process to municipal waste treatment plants and septic tanks to broaden knowledge.

Junior Achievement Inspire was a powerful career exploration event attended by 10,000 8th-9th grade students and 2,000 high school students and young adults from the region. During the event, students visited an interactive showcase of careers – and engaged with business mentors across industries.

The Monument team displayed a variety of items to demonstrate all the types of jobs we employ at a chemical plant (engineering, chemistry, trades, safety, support staff, etc.).

“JA always asks us to bring our safety trailer, because it’s a unique way to demonstrate the special training needed to keep employees, the community, and the environment safe,” said Allie Greenwood, Process Safety Engineer and Monument team JA organizer. “We also used a pH probe to demonstrate the pH scale – a very important measurement to every product we produce. Students were able to test household liquids (coke, cleaners, etc.) to understand the acid/base scale.”

Thank you again to everyone involved for inspiring the next generation of Monument team members!
