New Employee Spotlight: Welcome to Bryan Bailey!
July 17th, 2023
Bryan Bailey is a pretty laid-back guy. But if there’s one thing he takes very seriously, it's our company’s security. Our new IT Security and Compliance Lead for Industrial Control Systems is not a new face to the Monument team, but he has recently taken on a new role to help us boost our security, efficiency, and transparency across all sites and functions.
“At each of our locations, we have teams of great IT and OT engineers and operators who are really effective in production operations,” Bryan shared, “but we lack a unified system from a security perspective. With each facility having their own control system environment, this presents its own challenges and opportunities to implement global security best practices, policies, and governance for all of Monument Chemical locations. Given my security background and my experience with The Heritage Group (THG) and THG companies through my previous role with THG, Monument knew I would be the right person to serve as security liaison between the OT environments and corporate IT to help close those gaps.”
With focus areas ranging from endpoint security, disaster recovery, asset management, and security governance, Bryan is looking to implement a company-wide security methodology, while fine tuning the individual processes at each facility. These efforts will focus heavily on increasing documentation in all OT activities to enable better transparency and accountability from all locations.
“Personal accountability is one thing that really inspires me to succeed both professionally and personally,” Bryan explained. “When you leave for the day knowing you’ve done your best and your work has contributed positively to something bigger, that’s a big deal. Giving our teams more visibility will only help highlight how our work in the security realm impacts our company, as well as exciting opportunities to improve.”
Bryan’s already deep understanding of our company facilities, firewall devices, security platforms, and more has mitigated an otherwise steep learning curve — especially with the lack of a tangible blueprint to work from with this new role.
“I think the relationships I have built during my time at The Heritage Group and Monument Chemical have been very beneficial while kicking off this new position,” Bryan said. “I love the people I work with; they not only make my job more enjoyable, but also give me the confidence to continue to pursue new initiatives and ideas.”
While everyone here at Monument recognizes Bryan’s easy-going personality, those in his personal life know it better than anyone. When he’s not in the office, Bryan couldn’t be happier relaxing on a beach or by the fireside at one of Indiana’s State Parks.
“I could sit by the ocean for hours with a rod in hand; I don’t even need bait at the end of the line. And while a lot of the friends and family I go camping with love to plan activities and hikes, I tell them to just meet me back at the site when they’re finished — I’ll be feet up and zoned out in my happy place.”
But at home, Bryan likes to keep busy with home improvement projects. The self-proclaimed “handyman” will take on any project his fiancée will let him.
“I love working around the house, and I’m convinced that if I have the right tools, I can fix anything,” Bryan added. “That’s why I have so many of them!”
