Monument Creates New Chemistry with This Year’s Meade County Fair

August 21st, 2023

For over a century, the Meade County Fair has brought thousands of smiles to the faces of kids and adults alike. From carnival games and rides to tractor pulls and animal exhibits, there is something for everyone. But this year, thanks to a dedicated group of our Brandenburg employees, science lovers also found their special place in the crowd!

“For a couple of years now, we’ve been throwing around the idea of getting Monument a booth at the Community Fair,” Allie Greenwood, Process Safety Engineer, shared. “As a result of some thoughtful planning and effort by Alexandra Bledsoe and Russ Fackler, Monument Maintenance Mechanic and Meade Co. Fair Board Representative, we made it a reality this summer! Alexandra really took the reins on this and coordinated every detail to make sure it was really special for both employees and fair goers.”

Because if the Monument Brandenburg team was going to show up at the Fair, they were going to show up big time.

The week started with a tremendous crowd of employees at the big Fair Parade — a kickoff event in which Brandenburg’s participation has become an annual tradition. The rest of the week was highlighted by endless giveaways and snapshots at Monument’s photo booth.

As a nod to our Chemistry roots, Monument volunteers handed out color-changing cups, as well as ear plugs for the loud truck and tractor pulls. They also served refreshing popsicles, which were a welcomed treat in the heat, as well as raffled off a $500 gift card. All the while, an overflow of additional Monument employees attending the fair brought friends and family to the booth to show off our awesome team, as well as some of our end product uses.

“The community was happy to see us, and everyone really enjoyed themselves!” Allie shared. “The amount of joy we felt seeing our coworkers volunteering was incredible. Our employees are what makes this business run every day, and it is so nice to see us bonding over these fun activities! Everyone who participated volunteered on their own time to make this a success.”

Brandenburg’s sponsorship also included all the fun events at Wednesday’s Kids Fair, including the 3-legged race, softball throw, 50-yard dash, and more! And as always, Monument made their usual donation to the fair — this year, contributing $6,000 to the 4H/FFA and Fair Board.

As summer comes to a close, the Brandenburg team is already marking their calendars for the 2024 Fair.

“We know we’ll have even more volunteers next year,” said Alexandra, “so we are already making plans to expand the booth! We’re looking forward to making this a new tradition for our team.”
