Justin Gardner Jumps in at Port Arthur
November 10th, 2021
Nominated by: Stacy Johnson, Area Safety Manager, Monument Texas sites
It doesn’t matter if weather conditions are treacherous, key employees are out, or deliveries are delayed – when you operate in the chemical industry, there’s a saying you might hear often: “The show must go on.”
Justin Gardner, Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Services(HSSE) specialist at the Baytown site, recently lived this motto when he was called to fill in for his counterpart in Port Arthur. Despite not being familiar with the site or receiving any training, Justin jumped in and kept critical activities going for two weeks, such as writing permits and contacting the authorities needed to have these issued, and conducting
daily walk-throughs and facility audits to ensure the site was operating safely.
“Justin didn’t have anyone to assist him in Port Arthur, but he just came in and ran with it. HSSE is one of those areas where you have to be on top of things at all times, and he did an outstanding job,” said Stacy. “He is a great example of how Monument employees continuously go ‘Above and Beyond’ to help fellow employees, customers, and community members.”
