Baytown Transition – Next Steps and Team Updates
September 4th, 2025
Team,
As we continue the transition at Baytown, we want to keep you informed about what’s ahead, who’s taking on new responsibilities, and how we’ll be supporting each other through these changes.
Operational Changes
- Shift to Monday-Friday Day Operations: Beginning September 1, Baytown moved to a Monday-Friday daytime schedule.
- Swing Operator Role: We will have a swing operator working nights only to monitor boiler operation for steaming isotainers.
- Staffing Adjustments:
- We will transition out two more operators during this time.
- One contract maintenance position has been released. Further reductions will be considered as decommissioning concludes.
- Production Wrap-Up: All production at Baytown has been completed. We are now moving out remaining materials, consolidating inventory, and preparing the site for terminal-only operations.
- Decommissioning & Consolidation: Over the next several months, the team will focus on decommissioning equipment and consolidating tanks to support the new operational model.
Team Highlights
We also want to recognize the contributions of team members stepping into new roles:
Cody Sanders – Terminal Supervisor (reporting to me)
Cody has demonstrated exceptional safety awareness and problem-solving skills as a shift supervisor and has grown significantly in his role, supporting Vernon’s transition to MCB Site Leader. He played a key role in onboarding Specialty Fuels products – including HF-295, HF003, and RP-1 – and served as the point of contact for all manufacturing issues at MCB. Cody was also instrumental in Project Wolverine, developing and implementing decommissioning plans and supporting the team through this transition. In his new role as Terminal Supervisor, Cody will oversee day-to-day terminal operations, including loading/unloading, local blends, shipping coordination, safety compliance, and communication with customers.
Philip Sprague – Houston Area Environmental Specialist
Philip, currently serving as Baytown’s Lab Manager/Environmental lead, will assume a broader environmental role supporting the entire Houston area. This expanded scope reflects Phillip’s strong expertise and commitment to compliance and environmental stewardship.
Thank you for your continued professionalism, safety focus, and teamwork as we move forward.
Kurt Griffith
Director of Operations
