A Message from Paul: Update on Winter Storm Uri

February 19th, 2021

Monument Team,

Over the past year, you have demonstrated that together we can overcome a global pandemic while keeping each other safe. Now that we are dealing with a new challenge in the form of Winter Storm Uri, I want to reinforce that the safety and well-being of our employees and their families remains our top priority.

We know that nearly everyone has been impacted by the storm in some way. While winter storms in Texas are thankfully rare, the state has been hit hard, and recovery will take time. I am grateful to report that we have safely accounted for all employees in the Houston area. Our existing hurricane preparedness protocols have served us well, even with snow and ice. Thanks to our Ride Through Crews’ efforts, we were able to safely shut down our sites without any injuries.

I realize that trying to balance work and personal needs at this time is incredibly challenging. Be assured that Monument will continue to support both you and our business as we navigate through this latest obstacle together.

As we begin the recovery process, I wanted to provide a few Houston-area updates:

  • Employee Hotline: For the latest information or to request assistance, please call the Monument Employee Hotline at (855) 564-2020, option 2.
  • One Heritage Fund (www.oneheritagefund.com): Financial support is available to employees impacted by the storm. Please keep an eye out for an email and postcard with more information that will be shared shortly.
  • Area Utilities: The availability of power, water, and gas in the Houston area continues to be a challenge. The city of Houston is currently under a boil water notice, and residents are encouraged to conserve water wherever possible. We are working with The Heritage Group to deliver cases of water for employees to each of the plants and will communicate when they are available.
  • Site Status: We have begun an in-depth assessment of the sites and will keep you updated on when the plants are expected to be back up and running. However, we anticipate that this will take some time due to the availability of utilities and other off-site factors.

As you may have heard, we have declared Force Majeure on all products produced at our Brandenburg, KY and Houston, TX facilities due to the unprecedented weather, energy, and logistical issues currently affecting the majority of the country. A Force Majeure means an event or effect that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled has impacted our ability to fulfill customer orders. We are communicating directly with customers to address their needs.

While we have been faced with so many unforeseen challenges over the past year, I am continuously impressed by your resiliency and want you to know how much I appreciate everything you do to support our customers, communities, and each other. I am proud to be part of such a strong, supportive, and resourceful team.

Stay warm, and as always, be safe.

Paul
