A Message from Bill: Spotlight on Joel Swearingen

March 1st, 2021

Dear Monument Team,

As we shared earlier this month on Monument Connect, Joel Swearingen, currently Monument Controller, has accepted a new role at The Heritage Group (THG) as Director, Corporate Finance and Accounting. In honor of Joel’s many contributions to Monument, I wanted to send a separate note to recognize the countless ways that Joel has supported our team, our growth, and who we are as a company today.

Joel has been a part of the Monument family since Day 1, joining our startup endeavor in 2008. He strengthened our strategic table with a range of valuable assets, including many years of financial expertise, in-depth experiences from his time with The Heritage Group, and a shared enthusiasm for what we were setting out to build together.

Joel grew our Finance organization from a one-person show to the talented team we have today. He has hired fantastic team members to support our growth, and has served as a strong leader and mentor through a wide range of opportunities and organizational change. Joel also helped lead Monument through all of our acquisitions, and his work and oversight played an integral role in ensuring smooth integrations.

From his incredible efforts to strengthen our Accounts Receivable processes, to the many systems and tools he has helped put into place to ensure business efficiency, Joel’s incredible contributions will continue to reap rewards for Monument for many years to come.

On a personal note, Joel is one of the most kind-hearted people I know and an inspiring leader. He truly cares about people and about doing the right thing. He has always been willing to put in the hours needed to tackle a problem, because he thrives on finding the best solutions – and seeing his team and the company win. I’ve heard Joel say that Monument is his second family, and I know we owe Joel’s “first” family a big thank you for the many long hours Joel has generously given to us over the years.

I am grateful that Joel will remain connected to the Monument team in his new role at THG, but his daily presence here will be sorely missed – by me, his by team, and by anyone who has had the good fortune to partner with him.

Joel – on behalf of your Monument family – we wish you the best of luck in your new role at THG! I know everyone on the team joins me in thanking you for everything you’ve done for us and in wishing you much success in this exciting next chapter in your career.
