USED KALLO LAPTOPS HELP BELGIAN STUDENTS LEARN REMOTELY
May 8th, 2020
Right now, 9 out of 10 children around the world are out of school – which has created a range of challenges for their families, including access to the technology needed to support student learning. Companies and non-profits have been working together to close this critical gap for students in their local communities.
To support this effort, Monument Chemical Kallo recently donated 17 used laptops to the municipality of Beveren to help needy families continue their children’s education at home during COVID-19 school closures. The laptops were cleaned and refurbished – and new software was installed for conversion to vital educational tools.
Local officials sent Monument a thank you note with the theme #samentegencorona (#togetheragainstcorona), saying it was “gratifying to see how companies are taking part in the fight against the virus.” They also praised Monument for supporting “the daily struggle of health care workers, the inhabitants of Beveren/Kallo, the region of Waasland in general, and the local government.”
In addition to the donation of the computers, Kallo is using funding provided by The Heritage Group to provide care packages to families in need, as well as interactive children’s activities to promote both physical and mental well-being.
